Laptop Seizures - acte's Gurley speaks to kds's Berteloot

Federal Court decision, supported KDS Executive Briefing Alexandria, VA (April 23) - The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) has issued a warning to its members around the world - and to limit all business people - to proprietary information on laptop computers when crossing a U.S. border, and all personal data, including photographs, finance and e-mail that you do not want to be examined by Border Protection authorities eliminated. The warning follows a decision by a federal appealsPanel on 21 April 2008 giving customs officials the authority to examine, copy, and use of travelers' laptops - without reasonable suspicion. "ACTE filed an Amicus brief contending that a traveler had the laptop is essentially intellectual property and not the same as luggage nor freight," said Gurley. "The court disagreed and this decision will have significant impact on the business people that could arise no idea their data have control." The association also argued there was no publishedGuidelines, which cause as a secondary control, or the seizure of data or possibly the whole computer.
